Did you know that the average family in the UK throws away 6 trees worth of paper and card every year?
Recently fairandfunky worked with students from Denby Dale First and Nursery School, on a piece of artwork to display in New Mill Community Garden for ‘Art in the Garden’ with Holmfirth Arts Festival, centred around the environment and our impact upon it.
In a full day of workshops fairandfunky talked to the students at Denby Dale First and Nursery School about all the small changes that we can all make to have a more positive impact on our planet – from recycling to conserving energy; from buying local produce to using the car a little less – we can all take little steps to change the world, starting with raising awareness at Holmfirth Arts Festival!
Using junk you would normally throw in the bin, the students created 6 trees, representing the 6 trees worth of paper and card thrown away each year. The children worked hard to create vibrant pieces of artwork, ready to display in the garden for the festival weekend.
The 6 trees were displayed for all to see in the community garden, alongside artworks from Mick Kirkby-Geddes, HOOT Creative Arts, North Light Potters and many other talented local artists, and over the course of the weekend the pieces of work were enjoyed by over 400 visitors!
The SCRAPtastic trees now reside at Denby Dale First and Nursery School, to be enjoyed by the children, staff and parents, as well as reminding them of the little steps they can all take to change the world.
