This half term we have been running SCRAPtastic after school clubs at two local schools with Year 1 and Year 2 students.
SCRAPtastic after school club is all about encouraging little ones and their families to think about household waste – how to reduce it, how to reuse it and how to recycle it. Each week we have made SCRAPtastic creations from household rubbish that often just ends up in the bin. Our first session is always making these brilliant elephant mobiles from fabric scraps and cardboard – elephants that NEVER forget to recycle!
We’ve also made pen-pot holders from cardboard tubes, Autumn wreaths from old egg boxes, planters from juice cartons, spooky decorations from yoghurt pots and more, the young people (and their parents/carers!) had a great time getting crafty, all whilst taking little steps to change the world.
The workshops were kindly funded by The Central England Cooperative and because of this generous funding each family taking part in the workshops have also been gifted a copy of SCRAPtastic book, and a Fairtrade activities booklet.
We welcome the opportunity to run SCRAPtastic after school club in schools within Kirklees. Please email sophie@fairandfunky.com for details.
