All fairandfunky workshops encourage participants to look at the world around them and empower people of all ages with the knowledge that their actions can have a positive impact on the world around them; both locally and globally.
Recently, we were asked to deliver a series of SCRAPtastic workshops for Hepwoth Junior and Infant School’s ‘Eco Week’, where students took a look at all the little steps they could take in school and at home to change the world.
We delivered 4 recycling themed workshops throughout the day, with each session starting with looking at the kinds of rubbish we would normally throw in the recycling bin. But here at fairandfunky we say “don’t throw it away, make something!” and that’s exactly what the students from Hepworth School did!
First up was Class 1, who began the day with making elephant mobiles from recycled cardboard boxes and felt offcuts, because an elephant NEVER FORGETS TO RECYCLE!
Next up was Class 2, who worked extremely hard to transform plastic drinks bottles in to piggy bottle banks – saving pennies and the planet!
fairandfunky then joined Class 3, who also recycled plastic drinks bottles, but this time they were transformed in to vibrant hanging planters.
And finally Class 4 enjoyed making their own shark bottle catcher games using plastic bottles and corks – recycling can be lots of fun!
Throughout each workshop we talked to the children about recycling, inviting them not to wait for Mums, Dads, big brothers and sisters to do the recycling, but to take the initiative to do their own recycling: taking their own little steps to change the world.
Congratulations to every single student at Hepworth Junior and Infant School for taking their own little steps to change the world in a fairandfunky workshop – we’re certain you will continue to be change-makers throughout the rest of ‘Eco Week’ and beyond!
