We love seeing the work that goes on in schools to inspire young people to take their own little steps to change the world and are thrilled to hear that Diamond Wood Community Academy have been awarded the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award.
We have worked with Diamond Wood for a number of years, in fact their Eco-schools and Science leader, the brilliant Hannah Tombling, is a fairandfunky director! Hannah is one of the members of staff who support the Eco-Schools programme at Diamond Wood and join the team of student Eco-committee members. These students are keen to involve as many people as possible in the Eco-Schools work and invite parents, governors, and others to join their activities. They have completed an Environmental Review and created an Action Plan full of practical and fun eco-education activities to engage the whole school community.
Diamond Wood shared this with us from Eco-Schools and we wanted to share it far and wide:
“Diamond Wood show a real commitment to ensuring pupils get engaging environmental education. Getting involved with S2R, Kirklees Youth Climate Panel as well as fairandfunky are a great example of collaboration. Your ability and willingness to partnership is impressive! We’ll need this approach to fight the impacts of climate change in the future! Your hard work and dedication have inspired young people and empowered them with the belief that they can positively impact our planet – this is something incredibly special. Your greatest successes link clearly to the experience of your pupils. The best forms of climate action are impactful but achievable things that create a positive experience and prompt more action. We love this!”
We love it too! And we love that we have been able to support Diamond Wood on their Eco-Schools journey. Our workshops and schools conferences on global themes empower children with the knowledge and understanding needed to take their own little steps to change the world.
Congratulations to all at Diamond Wood Community Academy for being determined to make change and encourage others to do so; for giving opportunities for students, parents and the wider community to take action on sustainability and make a real difference. Together we take little steps to change the world. Well done Eco-team!
