Fairtrade Fortnight 2023 runs from 27 February to the 12 March and we are kicking off proceedings with the return of the fairandfunky Fairtrade Conference for Primary Schools on Friday 24th February.
The message for Fairtrade Fortnight 2023 is simple: Choose Fairtrade now and help save our Fairtrade foods. Can you imagine breakfast without a tea or coffee? Or getting through the day without a chocolate fix? Many of our favourite food staples from around the world – tea, cocoa, bananas, coffee – may soon be more difficult to find on our shelves. Climate change is making crops like these harder and harder to grow. Combined with deeply unfair trade, communities growing these crops are being pushed to the brink.
Our Fairtrade Conference celebrates farming communities – shares their challenges and successes – and looks at how we, as individuals, can make a difference by choosing Fairtrade.
Open to 12 schools to bring up to 8 students and 2 members of staff, the conference will empower people with the knowledge that choosing Fairtrade is best for people and planet. Through interactive and creative workshops students and teachers alike will both be inspired to stand up for farmers and take the messages of Fairtrade out to their school communities.
Taking the theme of ‘food’ the workshops, led by leading practitioners are:
