Holme Valley Green Week (30th September – 6th October) is an initiative fairandfunky are establishing in the Holme Valley calendar inspired by the Climate Coalition. It is a week of collaborative action to combat climate change with events, workshops, exhibitions and more.
The vision is for scheduled Holme Valley Green Week events to take place, alongside individuals, businesses and organisations who host their own ‘Green’ themed activities throughout the week, that fairandfunky will promote via social media channels and website. This could be anything from individuals sharing the little steps they take to change the world, to businesses sharing a green window display, to organisations running and hosting events.
All Holme Valley Green Week activities are open to all, whether you are passionate about climate action and climate change, or just want to find out what’s happening. Perhaps your workplace has embarked on a sustainability programme, or you’d like to be inspired to make little changes at home. Or maybe you just want to meet like-minded people at relaxed social occasions. We hope there will be something for everyone. Planned events so far are:
Green Drinks networking at Cafe Root – Monday 30th September 6-8pm A chance for people to get together and enjoy a Fairtrade brew or locally sourced beer. Expect friendly conversations, sharing ideas, positive connections, networking and more! The evening is an informal event but there will be a guest speaker presentation at 6:30pm with opportunity for Q&A afterwards. Please CLICK HERE to register for your free ticket.
Home Energy event with Holme Valley Climate Action Partnership – Wednesday 2nd October 5:30-8:30pm (locationTBC)
Great Big Green Get Together at Holmfirth Tech – Friday 4th October 10-2pm The Great Big Green Get-Together is BACK to celebrate Holme Valley Green Week 2024. Join fairandfunky and friends for a day celebrating all things green! With activities for all ages, including a Fairtrade cafe, book swap, local green organisations, smoothie bike and MORE. Children’s Art Exhibition throughout the Holme Valley during the week This year we are hosting The Great Big Green Children’s Art Exhibition on the theme of “Green”. Any size and form of artwork is welcome from primary school years reception through to Year 6. The artworks MUST be created from junk you would normally throw in the bin! Deadline for submissions is 30th August 2024, CLICK HERE to download an entry form.
We are calling on all businesses, organisations and individuals to join in! Perhaps you’re already running an event that week that we can add to our calendar – a community walk, book club, recycled art workshop, special offer on ‘green’ products in your shop or a film showing – the possibilities are endless!
