We love working with like-minded organisations to increase our reach and impact in schools, so are thrilled to announce we’re teaming up with Elland-based organic, vegetarian and vegan wholesaler Suma Wholefoods to spread the word about sustainability across Kirklees and Calderdale. The aim of the partnership is to promote sustainable lifestyles both in terms of the environment, food provenance, saving energy and climate action, in a fun and engaging way. Celebrating the launch of Suma’s Sustainability Strategy and the links this provides to schools on the Eco-Schools Programme. We are all connected – everything we do has an impact on the world around us. The workshops will encourage critical thinking in young people, empowering them to take little steps to change the world.
Established in 1977, Suma Wholefoods is a workers co-operative that has been at the forefront of ethical living for almost 50 years. Suma is the largest equal pay worker co-op in Europe, with a long-term consideration of future generations of co-operators. Suma Wholefoods are both environmentally responsible and active within their community; reflecting their ethics and values across everything they do. Just like fairandfunky! So we’re absolutely delighted to have strengthened our relationship and develop our work with them through to 2024.
“The key messages around Fairtrade and making the world a greener and better place that fairandfunky in still in their workshops are at the core of Suma Wholefoods ethics” said Suma Member Nigel Kaye; “Informing young minds about the challenges and possible solutions is key to ensure we start to live in a more sustainable world. Children are the ones who can take things forward now, and in the future, and it is so rewarding to see them really thinking about and understanding what they can do in fairandfunky workshops.”
The school workshops will be piloted in primary schools in January and February, with children being challenged to think about how we can all make a difference to our local and global environments, and ultimately, empower the next generation of activists to take little steps to change the world around them for the better.
