Our blog series ‘meet fairandfunky friends’ gives you the chance to find out a little bit more about the people we work with, and how they take little steps to change the world. The words people share confirm that we choose great partnerships! This week we take our SCRAPtastic workshop for families to Hive Cafe in Huddersfield so we thought we’d invite Gabby from Hive to our guest blog…..
Who are you, where are you from and what do you do? I’m Gabby Hurt, a Yorkshire lass (though apologies originally from Leeds) Founder and CEO of Hive Huddersfield CIC or more lovingly known as Hive Cafe.
What makes you a fairandfunky friend? I love their concept, love their energy and their workshops are engaging, fun, informative and relevant to today’s world.
What little steps do you take to change the world? In Hive we strive to be as sustainable as we can. Hive was built from recyclable and donated items, we use renewable energy, serve plant based foods and drinks and engage with food waste schemes. In Hive we support our community; offering a friendly and warm welcome, the chance to engage in wellbeing activities and community initiatives supporting all.
Who influences or inspires you? And why? I meet many people who inspire me on a daily basis, all people who come to Hive have a story and something within them that resonates or creates a spark of change that I have the power to implement. I must also say here that my own teenager inspires me and is one of the reasons why Hive was started. The importance of creating a safe space for younger people and knowing that we can play a small part in ensuring our young community feel part of something special that they help to build drives Hive and I to continue.

How do YOU inspire others to take little steps to change the world? Had to ask a trusted staff member on this one…..Instilling confidence in others to make a change for themselves and the community they live in.
