Did you know that an average family uses approximately 6 trees worth of paper and card each year? That’s a whole forest of trees in one family’s lifetime!
During Holmfirth Arts Festival 2020, fairandfunky teamed up with local school children to create a series of SCRAPtastic trees made from paper that would normally be thrown away, to encourage you to think about your everyday impact on the environment. The unique and vibrant creations were displayed in the windows of Holmfirth shops and businesses for all to see!
At fairandfunky, we love a challenge when it comes to recycling, and ‘Recycle, Re-forest, Reduce – A SCRAPtastic Forest’ was just that – a giant recycling project. Each piece used various types of paper and cardboard that was intercepted on their way to the bin, and given a new lease of life for a few more days; from toilet rolls to magazines; newspapers to eggboxes; cereal boxes to chocolate wrappers – all of it was used to create art for the festival!
Lots of people enjoyed the project, not least the students from Meltham CE Primary School, New Mill Infant School and Hepworth Junior and Infant School who helped create the pieces! We are glad that many people took a trip into Holmfirth centre to see and enjoy the displays first-hand.
If you’re feeling sorry that you missed ‘Recycle, Re-forest, Reduce – A SCRAPtastic’ and the rest of Holmfirth Arts Festival then don’t worry! There’s still time for you to watch the virtual festival online HERE – do take time to watch, and let us know what you think!
