We’re joining The Climate Coalition this month with their #ShowTheLove campaign: “We need to support the people hardest hit across the world by the impacts of climate change. We need to protect and restore nature. And we need support to stop our homes wasting energy and to quickly move towards cheaper and cleaner renewables that bring down household bills and give us reliable, secure energy the nation can be proud of. This February, people from all walks of life will use the power of green hearts to show decision makers that we want to see urgent action to tackle climate change, protect nature and bring down bills. These problems can feel huge, but together we can create real and meaningful change. Start small – take action and #ShowTheLove for our planet.”
Our SCRAPtastic workshops only ever use recycled materials which always gives us opportunity to talk about resources and how we use them. We share ideas to reuse, to reduce, to rethink and to repurpose our waste. It’s important that we ignite critical thinking in young people – What’s the impact of making the things we use everyday? Do we always need new? Is there a sustainable option? How can our choices make a positive impact on the planet?
Our little steps make a difference but without the correct infrastructure and changes of behaviour from businesses, manufacturers, big companies and governments there is only so much we can do. We need to let those who make decisions know that we want to see better transport networks, sustainable farming practices, easier ways to recycle, new ways to repurpose rubbish, improved circular economies……… The list is endless!
We’re making green hearts with young people this week and asking them what changes they would like to see; what do they love about their planet they want to protect? Their responses will be written in hearts and sent to our MP, asking how the Government is going to reach their commitment to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050 and how the visions and hope of our young people will be realised.
