Celebrated on 5th June every year, World Environment Day is the United Nations’ principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of the environment. This year fairandfunky host an outdoor environmental education conference for Primary Schools and bookings are NOW OPEN!
Hosted at Holme Valley Campsite in Holmfirth the ECO conference will celebrate the planets diversity and raise awareness of the role we all play in looking after our local environments. Interactive workshops from leading practitioners will share creative ideas and solutions on environmental issues including biodiversity, pollution, nature and growing.
Your school is invited to bring up to 8 students and two members of staff to the event. Everyone will take part in four workshops throughout the day. With fairandfunky students will ‘Feed The Birds!’ whilst discovering facts about biodiversity and the importance of looking after nature on our doorstep through food web games and will also create a bird feeder from recycled materials. In ‘Power Up’ with Water Explorers we’ll explore the power of water to create energy, transform landscapes and grow your breakfast.
With Grow To School we’ll awaken ‘Soil Secrets’ in the world beneath your feet: exploring what soils are made up of, thinking about its importance for all life on earth. And find out how to start composting at school and home. And take a walk around the woodland with Yorkshire Muddings to discover the different species of trees that stand tall above our heads. Creating nature art with the leaves you find, and learning how to identify common native trees.
The cost to your school is just £135. You will need to provide your own transport to the event and bring a packed lunch. The event is outside – whatever the weather – so please come dressed appropriately! We will also be hosting a number of activities over lunchtime so it really will be a day FULL of inspiring outdoor learning.
